Any better than the wiigator backup loader?? Also, where did the wiigator go anyway? Is he still around? question mark?

pebls123 said...

yes this is better since it has all the same thing but more like you can launch your backups straight from disc channel without the 'rebooter' and it adds a few hacks, a lot of brick protection and you can edit the system menu (mostly the boot screen but more hacks are on there way like actually customizing the menu you see kind of like skins) thats just a few of the things it has over gamma.
And no wiigator hasn't been around lately but there is news of a multigame loader from waninkoko supposedly coming "soon".

Geoffrey66 said...

The PreLoader 0,25 doesn't work.
It boots but it doesn't do anything. It only goes back if i press the Home button. :-( And I'm already on 3.2E.

@Geoffery66

The button entry you need to push is at the bottom of the Word document. In short, minus A Right 1 Up B Right Up 2 2 A. Good luck.

Well.... I have two Wii's .... One with the Backup Launcher 0.3 Gamma on it, and one that was bulk standard... So I decided to install the Softmii hack on there. Everything was going fine until I got to the Preloader 0.26 bit. It just wouldn't run, even after using the password... maybe I was using the wrong password I dont know... But I downloaded version 0.27 and used that. Managed to fully install the Softmii hack. OK... So I turn my system off, I turn it back on, and see the Softmii setup screen, I choose to RUN THE SYSTEM MENU... Now I can see the normal channel screen, great!! I insert a backup game (BOOM BLOX) and click on the normal disc channel... and the Wii see's it. COOL!!! So I click on Start or play or whatever it says... and then NOTHING!!!!!!! Just a BLACK screen. hmmmm, ok, I'll try ANOTHER game.... Exactly the same thing happens. So I try my backup discs in my OTHER Wii with the Backup Launcher 0.3 Gamma installed, and it boots up perfectly!!!

FOR ANYONE WANTING TO TRY THIS HACK, THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO WASTE A FEW HOURS!!!

Installing the Backup Launcher 0.3 Gamma on Wii system 3.4E takes = 15 - 20 mins AND IT WORKS!!!!!

Installing the Softmii and fixing the "fixed" rapidshare link on Wii system 3.4E took me = 2 HOURS AND IT WORKED.... BUT WOULDNT RUN MY BACKUPS.... SO I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE!!!!!

STICK WITH THE BACKUP LAUNCHER 0.3 GAMMA !!!

evilclownbobo said...

It wasn't made primarily for those Wii's with the 3.4U firmware. It's bound to be buggy for 3.4U. I installed it on my 3.2U Wii, along w/ the Gamma loader already installed, and it still works. Though, only one of my burned games works with the regular disc channel, b/c the other 10 or so were patched w/ the "backup-creator" to take out certain elements of the ISO, so it could work w/ the previous Backup Loaders. So.. It's pretty much just you with a problem with it.

Ashley said...

Well I decided to try it again this morning.... And I now cant sync my Wiimote with the console with the Softmii hack on.
How can I sync my wiimote???
The controller lights are just flashing but nothing else is happening, I'm pressing both the sync buttons on the console and the wiimote.

@ Anonymous.

There doesn't happen anything when I enter the code. :-( But does it have to be 0.26? Because in the download it was 0.25.

Ashley said...

Geoffrey, I had EXACTLY the same problem mate.
Replace it with version 0.27 here...
http://wiinewz.com/forums/nintendo-news/93869-preloader-v0-27-a.html

and the passcode is -

Home
A
Right
Down
left
up
minus
plus

ashely if you can't get something to work you could of just asked for help instead of bashing it completely and telling people there waisting time.I can assure you that this does everything its says but some people not point and fingers *cough*ashely*cough may not have the mental capacity to read a guide to install it properly and with the preloader issue in my pack has both .25 and .26 and the guide only has the code for 0.26 that is why it says to use 0.26 but since preloader is being updated daily there is already a new 0.27 which you get by downloading it or just updating from 0.26 over wifi on wii.here are the all the codes if i remeber correctly:
0.25:1 right A 1 down up
0.26:minus A right 1 up Bright up 2 2 A
0.27:home A right down Left up minus plus

*** We have noticed an error in this package. Before installing anything, go to the "apps" folder and delete preloader 0.25, then go into preloader 0.26 folder and change "preloaderv0.26cred.dol" to "boot.dol"

YEAH YOU HAVE NOW THAT I'VE MENTIONED THIS TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

This sounds like the most awesome thing to happen to the wii since the homebrew channel but this release sounds a little mashed together so I'm giving it a few weeks for a 0.96 pack or even a rumored 1.0

I have the backup loader running so I'm not in a huge rush. Plus, I'm in that same mental boat about reading directions being too much work and that password being more than "Press A to continue" looks like it could hurt my head

I'll wait for that kid with the abridged youtube tutorial wearing bunny slippers and eating coco-puffs - that kid rocks!

pebls123 said...

thanks ashely the original pack didn't come with it so i just installed it through wifi so i didn't realize i forgot to change the filename to boot.dol sorry about that

systemx17 said...

hey, in the instructions under phase 2, it says you require an internet connection. does anyone know what it is required for?

Anonymous said...

Works fine, too bad it doesn't work with all the patched discs I made when using Backup Launcher 0.1

Anonymous said...

just reburn them, blah, it's really not that hard??

Anonymous said...

You mean re-DOWNLOAD and re-burn them... at 4gigs each, that'll just chew up my bandwidth. No thanks.

pebls123 said...

systemx the internet is required for patching to system menu since its illegal to distribute these files it downloads them from nintendo legally and there isnt any real other way to do this and get all features but if you get firware 3.2 another way(like if you had it before) the only think you wont get i believe is region free

Digity said...

FYI if you don't use the included ARC then you will not have region free game loading. and there isn't any way to support decrypted discs from the disc channel. Hence why you must use 1:1 copies

ninjaman said...

hey how do i set the wii menu to look like it did after the soft mii mod is done?

ninjaman said...

Just to make my last post clear. I Have done everything succesfully, and now when I boot up the wii I get a different system logo from softmii developers and the menu (including the menu hand) is green. Can I change it back to the way it was?

pebls123 said...

yes you can just install a health screen over it you can probaly find the original around somewhere but if you install any health(0000004*.app) with whatever boot pic you want it will most likely have the original menu unless they specified using CSM alpha(or any mods of their own)

Matt said...

Just some things pointers to prevent people from running into any problems that I had:

-The system hacks for Preloader are all PAL by default except for one (move disc channel), replace the hacks.ini file with hacks.ini~ (removing the "~"). This is the file with NTSC system hacks.

-To load the Preloader after installation hold down Reset when powering on.

-I recommend you do not install the "Softmii Tweaks". It's just a skin for the warning screen and home menu. It's quite ugly and you can't uninstall it without having to redo everything.

Also, to people asking about the backup loader, it just uses WiiGator's loader, you can update the CMIOS when a newer version is available and it should also change for loading from the disc channel.

Anonymous said...

just flicking through the comments to see alot of people complaining it does not work....how on earth could you get it wrong...the best way to do it is just do the downgrading again to get rid of any useless ios's then go through the steps again. i advise going to www.wiibrew.com (it will change to wii-brewolegy or something when you click go) then download it there thats were i got mine and i have been a happy hacker for many weeks now and the newer one has more fixes for 3.4 users....happy now?

Anonymous said...

hi guys many thanks for the great package!!

i dont think anything happens when i enter the code, the prelaoder is v0.28!?

also there are no soft me 45.apps, the folder is empty?? any idea where i can get these apps?? email me pmjcorbett@gmail.com

Anonymous said...

im trying to get everything to work on frimware 3.4. do i need to downgrade first

Matt said...

there are tools included to downgrade your system to an earlier version

Anonymous said...

Garbage. There's better/shorter ways to accomplish most of this, disc channel loading is accomplishable in less invasive ways than cIOScorp, and manipulating the .app files for theming is even more invasive an unnecessarily risky.
TPHack - downgrade - cIOS - cMIOS. You now have backup loading access for both Wii and GC

Matt said...

Anonymous...everything you just listed is exactly what softmii does! it's just a bundle of applications to make life easier. The only non-invasive way of booting backups with the disc channel would be to load the backup loader and then restart the wii within the program, which by the way...defeats the whole purpose. and just don't install the themes, it's optional...problem solved!

This particular "thread" seems to have died but Im keen to leave my twopence worth.
I carefully installed the twilight hack on my brand new Wii and . . it worked great. I have since patched about 6 others and no probs so far. Since then I have repatched my Wii with Softmii and now every disc I throw at this pal console load through the disc channel and that includes 1:1 backups, verified scrubbed games and copies of copies (which may or may not be ntsc) - they all play!
Thats true of my Wii but I can't replicate whatever I have done to mine on any others. They all require a backup loader to run copies of copies! It must be the order in which I applied the hacks. Go figure?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous above...just run cioscorp again after you install preloader and the discs will load in the discloader.

Anonymous said...

Hi...I installed softmii..evrything went well accoding to the manual. But I cant play NTSC discs on my PAL version of Wii. I am under the impression that softmii makes Wii region free...... PAL games works fine(but that dosent solve the issue)..
Thanks in advance

Anonymous said...

some games just wont work inless they are the right region. gbatemp.org has a nice wiki about region games http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/Wii_Region_Patcher_Compatibility_List:_NTSC-US they got pal and jap to just look for it

Matt said...

not every game from a different region will work...that's not just a limitation in softmii. If a region needs to be forced or settings for the backup loader need to be changed from the default, you need to run backup loader from the homebrew channel.

Anonymous said...

Is this the best way to mod the wii? I'm about to get one that is a few years old from my nephew. It hasn't been played much and was bought not long after the wii came out. probably is not 3.4....I have read a little bit and softmii seems to be the best. is this the newest version and the best one to use? I know this will probably make somebody mad lol. I come from the xbox softmod world and know how it is for people to ask these questions...sorry! Just wanna make sure I get the easiest, most updated softmod...thanks!!

OK, I'm having the ol Monster Hunter 3g issue, I'm running a (wiikey'd, I know that's not supported here) 4.0J wii, homebrew's newly installed, but I still can't get MH to load- do advise please, the softmii link doesn't seem to be working?

joey_050 said...

does it work with wii firmware version 4.0?

James said...

The new Homebrew Unlock Hack has been released and now works with updates 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2!

Matt said...

Don't even bother clicking James' link. Nobody is stupid enough to pay for homebrew on Wii here.
