PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THAT THIS MAY BRICK YOUR WII, PLEASE USE EXTRA CAUTION!

Wiiconnect24 should still be off, right? I hope someone comes up with a way to leave it on and disable update check/auto download.
I have only tested it with 3.3U, but as far as I know, it should work fine with 3.3E.
I will be adding a note that loaders, such as cIOSCORP, Preloader, etc..., will not work, until a workaround has been developed.
Also, the Twilight Hack is completely removed, with no current way to get it back!
Dan... From what I've been told, you will only have to worry about the auto-update, if you insert an original disc that requires an update.
it's worth mentioning that in the new SD Card Menu you can only load games you actually BOUGHT for your wii console via shopping channel and have your console signature.
Installed wads won't load from the SD and won't copy back to wii system memory if you try to. So don't even think about moving them to the SD, you will have to install the wad again. Boomer.
Thanks for the info TiMeBoMb! Indeed, recently I tried to play my original brawl and it asked for an update.. I had to launch the game from the backup channel to avoid installing it. =\

that is not true dam, Installed wads load from the sd card with no problem, you only have to install this "IOS61_60_shop_usingcios249" google it, you only have to instal the ios 60, but after you update with waninkoko update 4.0, i can confirm this really work!!!!
Hi there was wondering if i can get some help, I was in the process of updating and got up to the last step and got the error on 4.0e and i think it was because i didnt check if i had enough free blocks, any way rebooted wii and now nothing shows on screen? any clues?

My wad manager worked fine until...
I was so damn stupid to copy wad manager and homebrew to my SD-card!
No files on the SD except for Internet channel are running! And they can not be copied back!
So I'd say to all PAL users, don't do this update! Just wait with it until there's a new twilight hack!
My brother updated to 4.0 on my wii and it was working fine yesterday. Now today, it won't even load to the wii menu but it loads straight to the homebrew channel. Any suggestions?

I can confirm that WADManager v1.3 works fine on v4.0. It DOES NOT work on SDHC cards.
If you're getting the -2011 error, it usually has to do with IOS's not being patched or trying to install incorrect region WADs.
I would HIGHLY suggest running "IOS Downgrader" (don't confuse this with "cIOS Downgrader). Then, you should install "cIOS36 rev.8".
@Ghoul 56... You are describing a problem with an incorrectly patched, or non-patched, version of IOS60.
Visit this tutorial, and be sure you pay close attention to the "IOS60 Patcher" section.

Your brother probably has a loader, such as "Preloader" installed. If it's loading directly to The Homebrew Channel, you may have a semi-bricked Wii. You will need to run "cIOS Downgrader" to downgrade your Wii. CAUTION: Anytime you change the Wii's firmware, you run the risk of a brick, so BE CAREFUL!!
The "unauthorized stuff" it searches for, is the Twilight Hack. The Twilight Hack is completely removed, in System Menu v4.0! So, whatever you do, DO NOT UNINSTALL The Homebrew Channel. If you do, there is, currently, NO way to reinstall it on v4.0!
Thanks, i fixed the problem the other day. I downgraded to 3.2u then upgraded with the guide posted here to 4.0. But i can't play any game such as mario kart or SSBB. it says i must update the system but i'am already on 4.0U. is there a way around this?
Works good for 3.2u. I was using softmii, but decided to uodate and its great. Canal's Wad Manager channel is blocked though, but Gamma is still working :D
Perhaps accepting the agreement is a bad idea. I did so to get access to download all of my legit games to the SD card.. all swell.. this morning none of the unofficial titles boot of the SD card.. and reinstalling doesn't help. Anyone?
Nevermind, they work again if I delete the channel normally from the Wii, without deleting the ticket. Oops.
This may sound like a dumb question but is anyone worried about auto-update after updating, or does waninkoko's updater block this with the patched ios?
I still have firmware 3.4U and can install WADs. Is it safe to try updating to 4.0 yet, or would you recommend downgrading to 3.2 first?

i can copy it to sd but then the wii doesnt recognize it.
Is there any way to erase the japanese system and install a western language one?

Just to let you all know there is a safe way of updating to 4.0 i have done it to mine i followed a vid up on youtube saying that i am using a PAL wii but when you update it knocks off wad installing but if you use IOS_Downgrader_1.0 system still on 4.0 but wad installer 1.3 works and wads will install again onlt found 2 that wont install.

I didn't installed 4.0 yet but i understand the steps clearly on the wehackwii blog.
I got my Hombrew Wii with 3.4U,with IOS36 rev.12(on the "About" "Reload",etc.)in the Homebrew Channel Main Menu,which is supposed to be with revision 8 or more.
My questions are:
1-Do i start first with cIOS36 rev8 or Firmware Updater 4.0?
2-Does it really work with firmware 3.4U without the chance of getting itself bricked?
3-It's beneficial to use the IOS60/61 patcher?
and this optional question:
Do i really need to downgrade my Wii to a lower firmware?

I simply ask these questions because i didn't installed yet so there are my doubts.

This is probably a stupid question, but can you still use Gecko OS/Ocarina codes?
This is probably total noob speak since I've only actually owned a Wii for a week and alas already have the 4.0e menu before I knew of homebrew's existance...
From reading the previous posts my understanding is that imported channels can't be installed from the SD card if they aren't already locked to your particular system... would it not be possible to create a PC based work around programme for this?
i.e. save an existing channel from you Wii to the SD card (so that the programme might identify the code it uses to lock to your system).
Take the SD card to your PC.
Use a programme which identifies your unique system identifier. (Is it possible to write such a thing?)
Use that programme (now with your system's identifyer) to patch whichever channel you are hoping to install so that your Wii will not reject it.
Copy the newly patched channel to the SD card.
Return the SD card to the Wii with fully patched channel ready for acceptance and installation into the system.

SO, i followed said tutorial and the same thing happened to me as "anueh" his problem was "Did anybody brick his WII by this procedure? Cause I did. I was before on 3.4 downgraded. The "Firmware Updater 4.0" stops with failure at the 2nd Shoping Channel Update at IOS61. After "Press a button the restart" the WII it stay in a black screen. I try the SaveMiiFrii with and open GC controller but nothing happened. The only feature working now is eject a disk

so I have a wii with the version 3.4U. I have installed homebrew channel, and sd card menu, so next i tried to install IOS60 Patcher,but It downloads finishes the 15 download files but when it tries to install the cIOS there is an error. It says something like ES_addcontentstart(random numbers) then -1017.

I have same problem!!! I try to hack a new wii that's came with 3.4u ver. and I intalled the HBC without problem but when I try to run the CIOS downgrade the screen goes black and I have to hard reeboot the wii. I try many things but have no Luck!!! There's something funny when the wii try to connect to the internet to do the downgrade...
Other thing the ii still in 3.4u...

you do not need to downgrade just get homebrew installed by twilight hack, then use the System Menu v4.0 update, thats what i did :)

I followed the tutorial, and now my HomeBrew Channel doesn´t open (everythig else is ok - i suppose). And i can´t install it again because the twilight was deleted during the update.

I have updated my WII from 3.2E to 4.1E trough the official way... and my HBC, WAD MANAGER and my backup launcher still work! (Well backup launcher is buggy xD)...
4.1E dont remove the HBC, as long as you dont replace it!...
The new Wii Homebrew Hack has been released. You can play backups, DVD’s, and import games on Any Wii (including 4.0 and 4.1) without a modchip and WITHOUT Zelda!
